Voting at 17? Would you think about that?

With the end of winter, soon spring, summer is finally making it's first shy steps into our lives. Which in fact makes me extremely happy as it's no secret i love summer! What is also a no secret is that this time of the year some major decisions are to be made either on political level or personal level. Every four years there are elections for a new city mayor. This year end of May brought us European elections as well.

I believe there was another similar placement of events when i was 18 years old. Back then voting had a different hype than today. You got to be an adult, express your political opinion( whatever that was) and celebrate democracy. At 22 ( 23 - 4 months, if you want) there is a different hype. This year European elections and local ones became more of a "responsibility for your future" / " proper adulting" type of thing. For the first time i got to watch political speeches, chat with peers about what actually concerns our generation, asked around and went voting with a much better appreciation of the whole system than i did in the past.

A major aspect that differ my voting experience this time was how i have interacted with reality outside school grounds. I had a trained eye to the problems that needed solving as well as the propositions that were made in order to solve them. That being said i still have not decided if voting at 17 - 18 has contributed as practice for my actual adult voting self hence was a good thing, or voting at 18 was an irresponsible, mostly parent and society driven action, in order to get the wanted results from a large mass of youngsters whose everyday has, for the most part, nothing to do with politics.

Although this matter is still on for debate in my mind, i am very pleased with my approach of politics this time. Did i vote correctly? Who knows! The point is i at least got a chance to be heard. Or so i hope ...
